In my last post I wrote about as a child/teenager I would go to the woods every Saturday with my Dad and brother to cut the week's wood. Several of my subscribers have asked me how could we burn the wood that we had just cut since it would be green? The answer is simple...we would never cut down a living tree. We only would cut up trees that had died and or fallen and had laid there for some time.
My Dad was a big believer in taking care of the land. He would never had wasted a living tree by harvesting it when there were already dead trees so readily available. Even then, for each dead tree we cut up, he would plant another tree to replace it. On the rare occasions that we had to cut down a living tree, Dad would plant 2 trees somewhere on the farm to replace it. That was important to him so that future generations could use the woods and enjoy it like we did. He always said, "Put God first, love your neighbor as yourself, take care of your family, be good to your land, and all else will fall into its proper place."...and it has.
Thanks for reading and visiting my blog. :-)
